WHAT IS THE KNOWLEDGE GAMES?

The Knowledge Games 2018 is an initiative by JCI Kagayhaan Gold Inc. to foster and advocate for the UNSDGs in the educational sector. Back in 2014, we partnered with the Department of Education Division of Cagayan de Oro in the conduct of the United Nations Millenium Development Goals (UNMDG) Poster Making Competition wherein learners from different public high schools learned about the importance of contributing to the attainment of the United Nations goals for the betterment of the society.

Once again, this year, we would like to spread awareness about the UNSDG to students in the city. The awareness workshop will help learners, and even educators, understand the relevance of our actions to the society and learn how we can contribute individually to the different goals.

On the other hand, as a developmental organization, we acknowledge the importance of education in the improvement of an individual. Quality education requires a lot of things and one factor that contributes to this is the recognition and use of the individual learning styles/ intelligences of learners. It is inevitable that how learners acquire knowledge greatly depends on their learning styles and the educational sector continues to advocate for this. Thus, we would also be conducting games and activities that would unleash and showcase the different learning styles and skills among learners. This would also foster camaraderie, leadership, and social skills of the participants.

HOW TO ADDRESS THE UNSDG GOAL #4?

One of the sustainable development goals of the United Nations is on Quality Education. As a chapter of trainers and with a huge membership who are from the education/academe sector, we give value on this goal. The Knowledge Games will involve teachers and students who are the main stakeholders of an academic institution.

In consultation from our teacher-members, we realize that one of the things that would contribute to quality education is to engage learners and create activities that suit their learning styles. Accordingly, learning styles, alongside other factors, contribute so much on how learners learn and acquire knowledge. Thus, the Knowledge Games will be conducted in order to address this area. Also, we will be taking advantage of the opportunity to orient teachers and learners (and parents) about the UNSDG.

OBJECTIVES:

By conducting this project, we aim to:
1.    Spread awareness about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) among learners and educators
2.    Unleash and showcase the different learning styles and skills among learners
3. Foster camaraderie, leadership and social skills among learners by going through different games and activities
4. Introduce physical and multi-sensory games to reduce screen time among learners.
